Citizens for Better Community, South Bay Chinese Club and the Fremont Main Library will again celebrate the Chinese New Year on Saturday, February 8, 2020 from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. This year, we celebrate the Year of the Rat! The official date for the new lunar year is January 25, 2020.

This event is for families, youngsters and anyone interested in Chinese culture. Craft booths will fill the library. Last year, Face Painting and Paper Crafts were featured along with Chinese Calligraphy. There were games, including a riddle game involving Chinese culture and the new year. On the other side in the Storytime Theater, other children’s crafts such as lantern making and fortune cookie pin making could be found. The children have tons of fun while they observe the demonstrations. They also get hands-on experience doing the crafts themselves and taking their own work home! Let’s see what new ideas pop up this year!

Don’t miss the entertainment program which takes place from 1 p.m. in the Fukaya Room. The performances include Instruments, Singing, Dance, Chinese Yo-yo, Martial Arts and more. It is fascinating to see the talents we have right here in our own community. Crafts will be open from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m., right after the performances end.
