About this committee:

One of the two CBC's programs that have the most impact and recognition in the Chinese community is the summer internship program. This program traditionally focused on sending high school seniors or juniors to the elected offices to learn about the fundamentals of how democracy works and basics of law making, and we have been getting strong support from State senators, assembly members, county supervisors, and mayors to teach our students. Each year, dozens of high achieving students apply for a limited number of openings at the political offices, and some of them will eventually go on to pursue careers in public life, and that's what CBC is hoping for. CBC's Internship club chair is Charles Liu, president of CBC 2017-2019, the vice chair is Herbert Chiu, the first president of CBC. Other early program leaders include Steve Cho and Anna Muh.

In recent years CBC has expanded the internship opportunities to the industries, beyond the traditional political summer internship program, such as dentistry and clean energy, as well as other industries that CBC board members can be mentors. These schedules are more flexible and students can benefit from the experiences from longer time beyond summer in learning from the industry experts. Because of the desire for stability and continuity of the CBC's internship program which was lacking, the internship management team has decided to form the CBC Internship Club.

The CBC Internship Club is a student-run non-profit organization designed to serve as a liaison through CBC board members between elected officials and the youth of the East Bay Area. The CBC Internship club includes year-round programs that provide essential services for the broader community such as English classes for immigrants or public speaking workshops for students. Beyond our CBC Internship-sponsored events, the club also provides a variety of community service events to its members. The CBC Internship Club also provides opportunities for its members to serve as interns for many highly-regarded city and state-level officials.
